Farming plays an important role on la Palma. Since the spanish inquisition, La Palma hosted many monocultures. At the moment, Banana plantation is very popular. Bananas are also influencing the landscape below appx. 500 msl (150ft). The plantation of bananas is currently still subventionated by the european community. US is in a economic battle with the EU for this reason.

You can also find Avogado, Orange plantation as well as Mandarins. Honey often comes from the northern part of the island.

Not to forget the winyards. There are many brands of local wines and some of them also won international prices. Taste them!
